From the Private Collections of Texas: European Art, Ancient to Modern
See more than a hundred of the most significant works of European art ever to be collected privately in Texas. The exhibit represents the first comprehensive survey of the history of private art collecting in Texas. The exhibit tells the stories of seminal Texas collectors of the past - including Marion Koogler McNay, Kay and Velma Kimbell, John and Dominique de Menil and Raymond and Patsy Nasher – and introduces visitors to many of the most important collectors still active in the state. Focusing on the art of Europe and the ancient Mediterranean from around 700 BC to the 1940s, this survey offers a spectacular look at the way that Texans, since first coming into wealth on a national scale during the oil boom of the 1920s, have continued to build a record of art collecting of the highest discernment. This exhibit features more than 40 collections; among the many artists featured are Rembrandt, Gainsborough, Goya, Monet, Renoir, Cézanne, Gauguin, Van Gogh, Matisse, Picasso and Mondrian. This exhibit is supported by an indemnity from the Federal Council on the Arts and the Humanities.

This event or venue can accommodate children with special needs.
