Fit Kids
Taekwondo increases flexibility, builds strength—and helps kids stop kicking just for fun. But one of the best things about this Olympic sport is that adults can enjoy it just as much as children can! Learn the martial art as a form of self-defense or just to help work through the stress of everyday life.
Check out the programs at Frisco’s American Taekwondo Association Black Belt Academy. Children ages 7-16 can check out the Karate for Kids program, which aims to teach respect, confidence and dedication in addition to technical taekwondo skills. Grownups can start with one of the academy’s all-adult classes before trying the Black Belt Club, where they’ll be eligible to participate in special workouts and weapons training. 469/633-9944; www.friscoata.com.
In Plano, try Vision Martial Arts Center, which focuses its taekwondo lessons on self-defense, forms and sparring for children and adults. The studio even offers a “families-only” class in addition to its children’s and adult lessons. 972/758-8622; www.vmacplano.com.
